Introducing Hooshang Yashar

My interest in art started at an early age. "As far back as I can remember, I was interested in drawing and painting." At the age of 14 I studied with a master painter for a few months. "He insisted on teaching the fundamentals of drawing and values in black and white (charcoal and pencils) before introducing oil paints." That proved to be valuable throughout my fine arts career. I continued painting on my own while studying the works of master artists.

I attended Pasadena City College and San José State University, earning a degree in Industrial Design. Upon graduation I was employed by the world-renowned graphic designer, Saul Bass. While pursuing a career as a graphic designer and illustrator, and raising a family, I always stayed with my first love, oil painting.

My medium is oil. My subject matter ranges from landscapes to seascapes, still lifes to wildlife. I have entered many juried shows and have exhibited my work in a variety of Fine Art Galleries throughout California. My interest in nature is the source of inspiration for my paintings. The beautiful Northern California coastline and rolling hills are the major focus of my paintings. I enjoy reading about and studying the works of classic and contemporary masters. The most important masters who have influenced me greatly are Rembrandt in the classical period, and contemporary artists Richard Schmid, Howard Terping, Clyde Aspevic, Bill Antone and more. I would describe my painting style as realistic/impressionistic. My paintings have been collected by private sectors and corporations.
